About Meals.Chat

Meals.Chat is a calorie counter you talk to. Send a photo of what you're eating in iMessage, WhatsApp or Telegram, and it replies with what it was, the calories and macros, and where your day stands.

171,000+meals logged
42,000+distinct ingredients seen

How the estimate works

A large multimodal AI model looks at the photo and writes down what's on the plate: each ingredient and a portion for it, in grams. Those portions turn into calories, protein, carbs and fat, and the reply is the total. If you type a sentence instead of sending a photo, the same model reads that. If you photograph a nutrition label, it reads the numbers off the label.

It is an estimate. A photo can't weigh food, so portions are the model's best read of the plate. That's why every reply can be corrected in a sentence: “no cheese”, “half of it”, “that was two eggs”. The correction is applied to the same meal and the day's total moves with it.

What it will never do

Call your food good or bad. Meals.Chat reports numbers and a running total, in the same tone whether you're under your goal or over it. No streaks, no warnings, no badges.

Who makes it

Meals.Chat started in early 2024 as a Telegram bot and grew into iMessage, WhatsApp and an iPhone app. It is made by Mohrer Associates LLC, a Delaware company. A person reads every message to hello@meals.chat.

Your photos and messages

Photos and messages are stored so your history works and so a correction can be applied to the right meal. They are not sold and not shared beyond the services that run the product. The details are in the privacy notice.
